5 Foods That Help To Eliminate Cellulite
Full disclosure- I’ve spent a large part of the last 25 years meticulously devising ways to cover my ass, literally. In the time that I’ve spent finding bathing suits, trying on jeans, searching for tops that cover the tops of jeans, and trying to see my butt in the mirror I could have become the first female president of the United States or discovered a renewable energy source. But instead I’ve been looking at my butt! I’m not proud of this obsession, but I am tired of it. That is why I’ve decided to stop wasting time and to do something about it. If I’m going to obsess then I might as well achieve results. If I’m going to be ass-centric then it may as well be good. First, let’s talk about cellulite.
Cellulite is a complicated issue and one that plagues 90% of women in industrialized nations. We live relatively luxurious lives when compared to our non-industrialized sisters. The fact that we drive to where we want to go, and get water from the tap, and spend so much time sitting on padded cushions eating bon-bons is why we get cellulite. Women who have to walk to the well for their water and build a fire to cook simply don’t have this issue.
We should be celebrating our cellulite! It’s an indication that we’ve made it as humans, that we live in a level of comfort and security that allows us spend our time in the limitless endeavours that we dream up, to write, and build, and expand our minds instead of focusing entirely on survival. However, I find it hard to celebrate the richness of my culture when I can’t fit into my favorite jeans. Lightning may strike me for saying this out loud, but I did promise full disclosure.
So while driving my kids around and sitting in my comfy chair to work and create spires in the sky, I want to look good! In my research for doing so I’ve found out some things. To start with here are 5 Foods That Help To Eliminate Cellulite:
DRINK WATER- I know, I know. You’ve been told. And is water even a food? It doesn’t matter. The reason you’ve heard this before is because it’s true! Water will help flush out toxins that hide in the fat under your skin. These toxins add significantly to cellulite. Water will hydrate your collagen and skin, lessoning the sag. Drink 8-10 glasses a day. I have a water bottle that I know I need to fill and drink two times in a day. Create a plan that works for you and it'll soon become second nature.
Citrus Fruits- Lemons, limes, grapefruit. Citrus is a great detoxifier. Citrus is also full of Vitamin C, which strengthens collagen. Drink a cup of warm water with the juice of half a lemon first thing every morning for a great daily detox.
Cilantro and Parsley- Both of these herbs help to flush toxins out of your body. They cling to heavy metals in your system and carry them out of your body. Cilantro and parsley are also full of minerals that you need and that your body can easily absorb. They carry out the bad and bring in the good. Whole foods can be magical that way! Try adding a handful to a daily salad or smoothie.
Flax Seeds- These little powerhouses help to support estrogen levels, (unbalanced hormones are a big cause of cellulite), and they also boost collagen growth. Grind flax seeds in a coffee grinder or with a mortar and pestle before using to make them easier to digest. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons per day onto oatmeal, salads, or in smoothies.
Gotu Kola- Gotu Kola is one herb that has been scientifically proven over and over to be beneficial in decreasing cellulite. Gotu Kola boosts collagen growth, improves circulation and reduces fluid retention. In addition to these cellulite-busting benefits, gotu kola helps immensely with focus. Think of it as coffee without the edge and harmful side effects. When I was in massage school our teacher made us a daily tea of gotu kola and licorice roots to help us focus. We would get so sleepy after giving and receiving massages all day and this tea really helped to pick us up when the midday slump hit.
Gotu Kola and Licorice Root Tea: Place 1 inch piece of each Gotu Kola and Licorice Root in a sturdy jar. Pour boiled water over and let steep for 20 min. Strain and drink. Alternatively, place roots in the coffee maker of your choice, (where you’d normally put the coffee), brew and serve.
These are 5 easy to include foods to help support you in your own love affair with your body. Try to incorporate them into your daily routine and soon they will be easy as pie, but so much better for you!
